Arch isn't for everyone, and that's fine. Here's why it works for me.
The pitch
Arch gives you a minimal base and lets you build up from there. Nothing is installed that you didn't explicitly ask for. That sounds tedious until you realize it means you actually understand your own system.
The trade-off
- You will read the wiki. A lot.
- You will occasionally break your system on a Tuesday.
- You will learn more in a month than in a year on a "just works" distro.
Who it's for
If you like knowing what's running on your machine and why, Arch rewards that curiosity. If you just want a laptop that boots and gets out of your way, look elsewhere — and that's a completely valid choice too.
The best distro is the one that matches how you actually want to spend your time. For me, right now, that's Arch.
